For Family Caregivers

LGBT Caregiving

Caregiving is often challenging emotionally, physically, and financially. People who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) may encounter special difficulties whether they are caregivers or the ones in need of care (and often both are LGBT).

This guide, prepared by the Next Step in Care campaign, in collaboration with Services and Advocacy for GLBT Elders (SAGE) and the SAGECAP (Caring and Preparing) program, addresses these concerns. The guide discusses subjects such as identifying oneself in a new health care setting, what legal documents are essential, how to deal with instances of discrimination, and where to go for help.
