The Alzheimer’s Association works to advance research to find a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. The site offers information about Alzheimer’s disease and links to community resources, which are available via zip code or state-by-state search. The Caregiver Center features advice about managing behavior, legal and financial concerns, and other information.  There is a 24-hour helpline. The Alzheimer’s Association also has chapters all over the country, and many have their own robust websites. Recently, some chapters have formed their own independent organizations. The American Heart Association is a national non-profit organization that works to educate the public on issues related to cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Their website offers information for patients, caregivers, and health care professionals. The caregivers’ section, “Heart of Caregiving,” features information on caregivers’ rights, communicating with patients and healthcare professionals, and tips to assist caregivers maintain their own health and well-being. The American Heart Association also has an online community for heart attack survivors and their family caregivers called the Support Network.

APDA focuses its energies on research, patient services, education and raising public awareness about Parkinson's disease. APDA supports nine Centers for Advanced Research, 52 regional Information and Referral (I&R) Centers, 45 chapters, and 250 affiliated support groups nationwide. There is a dedicated I&R Center for veterans with Parkinson's, their families, and their health care professionals.

Cancer Care’s website provides free, professional support services to anyone affected by cancer: people with cancer, caregivers, children, loved ones, and the bereaved. Cancer Care has educational programs for patients and caregivers, counseling services, and financial assistance. Services are available online, on the telephone, and in some cases face-to-face. Many resources and services are also offered in Spanish.

Facing Disability: for families facing spinal cord injuries
